SAIC and its employees work closely with nonprofit organizations

Continuing a long-standing tradition, SAIC reaffirmed its commitment to supporting military and veteran families with its expanded corporate citizenship program. In 2019, we increased monetary and employee volunteer support in collaboration with nonprofit organizations that focus on service members, veterans, and their families.

“SAIC holds a deep connection to our armed forces. With more than a quarter of our employees being veterans, that’s nearly 6,000 men and women who bring knowledge, experience, and dedication to our customers’ missions and influence our values and culture every day,” said SAIC CEO Nazzic Keene. “I am proud of our commitment and support that directly impact current and former military personnel and their families. We offer our appreciation for their dedication, determination, sacrifice, and service.”

Building Homes for Heroes

SAIC joined forces with Building Homes for Heroes, a national nonprofit organization that builds and modifies homes, then gifts them--mortgage-free--to veterans and their families. Building Homes for Heroes gifted and modified its 225th home for injured veterans at the end of 2019, and it aims to gift one mortgage-free home every 11 days, on average. In December 2019, SAIC employees volunteered to perform final preparations, including landscaping and outdoor decorations and lights, for the Virginia Beach home of Navy Lt. Patrick Ferguson, a veteran who sustained numerous physical and psychological injuries throughout his 22 years of service. Since 2013, SAIC has raised more than $325,000 toward homes for eight wounded veteran heroes and their families.

CyberWarrior Scholarship

In collaboration with the Center for Cyber Safety and Education, a nonprofit charitable trust committed to making the cyber world a safer place for everyone, SAIC provided 10 veteran recipients of its CyberWarrior™ Scholarship with career development opportunities to help meet the national need for qualified cybersecurity professionals. The $50,000 in total scholarships that we granted in 2019 provided the recipients with the support they needed to become certified for careers in cybersecurity, including training classes, textbooks and materials, and exam vouchers for the (ISC)2 certification of their choice.

Operation Homefront

For the seventh consecutive year, SAIC continued its support for Operation Homefront’s Back-to-School Brigade® events across the country. Operation Homefront is a national nonprofit organization serving America’s military families. It provides critical financial assistance, transitional and permanent housing, and other recurring family support programs throughout the year. SAIC employees helped distribute backpacks and school supplies to children of active-duty service members, helping them get a head start on a successful school year.

USO of Metropolitan Washington-Baltimore

Each holiday season, SAIC employees deliver warmth and festivity to our troops and their families in collaboration with USO-Metro. In 2019, employees sponsored 125 children of active-duty service members, selecting and providing gifts to make their holiday wishes come true.

Wave Warriors Surf Camp – Salt Water Treatment

SAIC employees volunteered at a fun and therapeutic event in Virginia Beach for injured service members and their families, hosted by the Wave Warriors Surf Camp – Salt Water Treatment. SAIC employees, providing from in-water support to lunch service, witnessed how riding waves delivered a unique and empowering experience for veterans.

All of this only scratches the surface of the many SAIC Citizenship activities that take place throughout the year. Our employees volunteer side-by-side at numerous events, demonstrating compassion and commitment to helping others and making a difference in the communities with which we share.
